The contributions of freed slave, Mr. Bill Williams, led to the rich history of Oak Hill, Florida. In the late 1800's Mr. Williams started the school, church, and cemeteries for the new and growing black community. The city is being implored to preserve these accounts and the families' records in the wake of the surrounding lands being sold to a developer. This trailer is a taste of what steps are being taken to preserve this small community and the Saints and Sinners cemeteries at its heart. I am the sole documentarian of this journey as it was presented to me by the families in Oak Hill and the town's economic director. They were concerned they would not be heard and asked that I come aboard to record the steps to preserve the cemeteries and the history buried within. I began filming in March of 2023 and have been a part of the community effort since. I would like to be working on this full time but I have need for income, so the editing often gets put to the side. A grant would be an amazing gift and would help me stay focused on this project.
