How She Moves (HSM), a documentary short about the humorous and spirited Indu Mitha, a 90 year old dance teacher in Pakistan, as she prepares for her final dance performance in Islamabad. Indu is the only teacher of Bharatanatyam, a rare classical Indian dance form in Pakistan, and hopes to pass the baton onto her star dancer Amna, an equally charming and candid character in her mid-20s. Through intimate confessionals and vivid imagery, our film uses dance to tell the moving story of Indu's legacy in preserving this dying art form, and how Amna grapples with taking up the mantle. Our journey follows Indu and Amna closely in their last week of rehearsals, encountering multiple obstacles in staging the production, highlighting their creative differences yet adoration of each other in the process. Using this highly cinematic art form as a prism, we explore a conversation on culture, identity and freedom from the perception of dancers from two very different generations. HSM was directed by Anya Raza & Aisha Linnea Akhtar
