SHIFT is a short film based on my personal experiences with addiction. Set in a small town, an eight-year-old girl, spends the day with her newly sober father. Temptation and reality collide, derailing the afternoon, forcing her eyes wide open and leaving her to pick up the pieces. SHIFT explores addiction through family, choice, and the human spirit. As a daughter and sister of an addict, I have experienced great travesty and loss, but have also learned a great deal of compassion for this human experience. I was forced to open my eyes at a very young age to the reality of my father’s addiction. I experienced a shift of innocence, which was heartbreaking, but so full of love when I realized my father was an addict. My personal choices have strengthened the unique bond that I have with my father and my understanding of the disease. This is where the compassion lives. As a filmmaker, I made SHIFT to share my truth and inspire others to see addiction in another light. 12th & GIBSON is a music video written and performed by Toby Keith's newly signed artist, Lance Carpenter. The song portrays a young boy's journey of becoming a man. It often takes the love and guidance of your family and your coaches to mold you into who you are meant to be. On the court, he learns to be a man and the foundations of life, teamwork and heart. On the porch, he learns to dream, appreciate the smaller things in life, and never take for granted family, friends, and love. This is a Hero Journey about “becoming a man” and “following your dreams” while remembering who you are and where you came from.
