KODAK SUPER 8 FILMMAKING CHALLENGE

Director(s): Troy Walters

I'm an avid plane spotter and sometimes do plane spotting around Sydney Airport using a variety of video and film cameras and this film is a compile of captures of a variety of jet planes taking off and coming in for landing taken on a variety of Super 8 and Double 8 films. Abiding by the rules I made the Super 8 content about 58% and the Double 8 content 42%. The Super 8 films I used for this compile include Vision 3 50D, 1970s/80s Kodak Ektachrome 160 Type G and 1988 expired Svema U0.32, the Double 8 films used are a 1984 expired Kodak Kodachrome 40 and a vintage 1967 expired Kodak Kodachrome II. The Vision 3 I got Nanolab to process in colour and the rest of the films I processed myself as B&W negatives in Caffenol C (coffee, vitamin C, washing soda). The digital transfers were done by Nanolab and Essential Films. For the sound I extracted the plane sound effects from some of my digicam captures of the jets taking off and added them into the film to make it a sound film. :)
