KODAK SUPER 8 FILMMAKING CHALLENGE
A portrait of the abandoned Miami Marine Stadium, shot on one roll of Super-8 film, edited in camera, with a soundtrack evoking an ambiance of natural sounds in the area from the present and past. Once a venue for boat races and concerts, the marine stadium was condemned by the city in 1992 following Hurricane Andrew. An engineering firm determined that the the structure was safe, and efforts have been underway by Friends of the Miami Marine Stadium, a non-profit organization, to renovate it for public use. In the meantime, graffiti covers the interior structure, floors, and broken seats. The area is easy to enter, and those who wander into this unique space are usually left alone.
