Game Day Ritual is a short film I directed and co-wrote about the absurd nature of sports fandom. Every year, sports fans (myself included) delude themselves that "this is the year" their team will win a championship. Most years, it's not. Game Day Ritual is about three friends who kidnap the star player of their favorite basketball team before Game 7 of the Finals in order to perform an occult ritual they believe will break the curse that has haunted the franchise and finally deliver a championship. This short blends comedy and fantasy and ultimately reminds us of the old idiom that the real championship is the friends you make along the way. This film is my latest project after moving into filmmaking after a decade of work in journalism. My filmmaking journey began when I was selected to the 2017 New Orleans Film Festival's Emerging Voices program. I was also selected to the 2019 NALIP Emerging Content Creators program and in 2021 I took part in La Selva's Film Accelerator Program mentored by Werner Herzog. I worked as a Video Producer with the New Orleans Saints & Pelicans, directed commercials, music videos and documentaries, and am currently the Virtuous Video Producer at the New Orleans Video Access Center. Game Day Ritual will make it's World Premiere at the Louisiana Film Prize and is an Official Selection of the 2024 New Orleans Film Festival.
