Apply to animate a short story about network effects

An investor group has a network effects story to tell through animation and they are using AudPop to find and hire the perfect animator for the job.

Call to Action
We are hiring an American animator to create a 30-second animation about a fun network effects story. This micro-cartoon will tell the story of a community of how, in the post-#MeToo, post-murder of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, post-venture/tech PR campaign promises yet again to do better, nine different characters (6 Black, 3 white, 1 NYT bestselling author, 2 VCs, 5 entrepreneurs, 3 academics) came together to volunteer support for a community of Midwest City entrepreneurs.

This "once upon a time..." story begins with the CEO of a midwest Tech Accelerator making national news by calling out two city council members for racist voter suppression, which attracted the attention of a VC and a larger community of entrepreneurs, and how all nine of these people have actually been connected over the years, some of them since they were kids. The tone should be fast, upbeat, kind of a "but wait, there's more, there's more, here's the REAL story!" a story-within-the-story of a group of people who care about creating opportunities for American entrepreneurs who also happen to be Black women.

This is a story about humans showing up for what they think is important. And proof that despite the renewed public face of white supremacy, post-Trump presidency, people can work together across race, class, and geography toward the American economy and entrepreneurial endeavor.

The target audience for this video is people who care about inclusivity in tech, in venture, in accelerators and incubators, and who are open to the idea that diverse teams drive better outcomes.

To Apply: Submit your reel and a video about why you want to create this video. If selected, you will have ONLY 9 DAYS to create the animation.

Video examples that show the type/style of animation we are looking for:
We can have almost this much fun with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCpjgl2baLs
And this isn't quite as good -- too much tiny print: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnH_pLZmf14

Think: we want simpler and fun. E.g., 2020 is a dumpster fire, with an orange-faced blond man (White House occupant) in the flames and a circle-slash over RACISM emerging with wings.

Mandatory things to include or things to avoid in the video
It's a show, not a tell. Without lecturing the listener, it should be facts about action.
So many VCs and tech companies make pledges. This crew of individuals became friends and collaborators because we walk our talk.
Race, gender, and location should be obvious in the tellings of the characters.

Proposals are evaluated based on the following judging criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Technical Merit
  • Fresh, Diverse Perspective
  • Adherence to the Assignment
