Tell your Montana healthcare story

Most Montanans have a healthcare story: dropped from insurance after surviving breast cancer....enrolling in college as an adult to access affordable healthcare....going uncovered due to the cost of premiums...GoFundMe campaigns to cover out of pocket expenses...and the list goes on. Here's your chance to tell your healthcare story and make a difference!

OpenSource Montana is sponsoring this political healthcare video contest to provide an opportunity to effect change and influence the 2020 vote. Create a moving video and OpenSource Montana will help get your message out statewide!

CALL TO ACTION: Submit a 30-second healthcare video that tells a personal healthcare story to hold U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) accountable for his policy positions on healthcare.

Your submissions should have Montana flair (characters/story/landscape/activities) and must address one of these three issues:

  • Need for access to high-quality, affordable healthcare
  • The high cost of prescription drugs
  • The voting record of Senator Daines

Please note: your submissions do not need to include Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.). You can tell a healthcare story and why affordable healthcare matters.

You must include at the end of your video text that reads,  PAID FOR BY OPENSOURCEMT.

HOW THE WINNERS ARE DETERMINED: The contest is hosted in two rounds. In the first round, Montanans and fans of Audience Awards are encouraged to vote for the political advertisement that they believe is the most effective. The top 5 submissions with the most votes and the top 5 preliminary jury-selected submissions will advance to the finals round.

From the finalists, the leadership team of OpenSource Montana will select one advertisement as the winner, one 2nd place ad and an additional Honorable Mention.

PRIZES FOR BEST HEALTHCARE STORY VIDEOS:

1st Place: $1500

2nd Place: $1000

Honorable Mention: $500

MORE SUBMISSION DETAILS

Produce a 30-second video/advertisement that tells a healthcare issue story. You write the script. You choose the subject-matter. You are encouraged to use humor, truth, creativity and your talent to tell the most effective healthcare story possible.

Here is the link to a creative briefing that includes verified facts, votes and statements of Senator Daines regarding healthcare policy in the United States: https://opensourcemt.org/media. (Also downloadable under the materials tab or by clicking here). Of course, you are encouraged to do your own research as well. The advertisement you create needs to be accurate, fact-based and verifiable in order to qualify for the competition.  You are encouraged to attribute sources in some manner when a fact or statement is used. We do not want to limit your creativity.  We do want to publish accurate and true information, hence this requirement.

One idea of how to include Steve Daines is to include a title card in your video that reads " Hold Steve Daines Accountable."

Once you have successfully uploaded and submitted your thirty-second advertisement on the Audience Awards site, your film will be reviewed by the leadership of OpenSource Montana that is determined to be inappropriate for publication or unable to be used subsequent to the contest for advertising purposes by OpenSource Montana. The producer may be encouraged to re-edit the piece so it may be accepted into the contest.

About OpenSource Montana: OSMT was founded in 2016 by business leaders from Montana’s high-tech sector committed to protecting the unique values that make our state a great place to build businesses and raise families. Our membership has expanded to include a diverse group of business and community leaders dedicated to protecting what makes our state unique while preparing us for the future. We believe free enterprise and the promotion of our core principles are essential to the quality of life and economic prosperity for all Montanans.

Our view is that Montanans deserve leaders who will promote affordable and effective healthcare for all Montanans and who will fight to protect our access to public lands and clean rivers. Our kids need champions to work tirelessly for an education system that gives them a leg up in life.  The people we’ve elected should have the courage to stand up for our ability to make a living, instead of rubber stamping someone else’s agenda.

OpenSource Montana is working to amplify candidates who embody those convictions, guided by these core principles:

  • Affordable and effective healthcare for all Montanans.

  • Access to clean rivers, open lands, and a healthy environment.

  • A strong public education system that creates opportunities for our children.

  • Fair and inclusive policies that protect Montana’s families and small businesses.

  • Modern infrastructure to support our growing economy.

  • Fair tax policies that support the growth and future health of the state.

  • Fair and open voting access for all citizens.

This contest is sponsored and paid for by OpenSource Montana, an independent PAC with a simple goal to protect what makes Montana a great place to make a living and a life, now and for the future. OSMT is not tied to a political party or a candidate. We support the people and issues that keep our economy and communities strong.
