Diversity + Inclusion = Innovation & Creativity

21st Century Fox Global Inclusion has announced the participants in its seventh annual Fox Writers Lab. The program takes eight writers through an immersive four-month curriculum that strengthens the pipeline of original storytellers on Fox television shows.

This year’s Fox Writer's Lab participants and their representatives are: Anthony Florez; Felicia Hilario (Abrams Artists Agency); Milton Liu (Jeremy Tenser Limited); Jenny Deiker Restivo (Artillery Creative; The Gersh Agency); Aiah Samba (Stories International); Elizabeth Stamp; Jai Tiggett (Gray Krauss Sandler Des Rochers) and Tesia Walker.

The writers will receive feedback and guidance on their scripts through interactive “master classes” and will engage in guest speaker sessions with experienced writers, showrunners and directors. They also will be coached by Joe Rogers at Executive Reboot LLC, and receive mentoring from executives at Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox 21, FX and 20th Century Fox Television. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive priority staffing meetings for the established Fox Writers Lab Staff Writer position on Fox entertainment productions.

In addition, at the program’s conclusion, one finalist will be named the 2018 Fox Writers Lab Fellow. The Fellow will be awarded either a purchase and development deal on his/her original script or a “first-look” deal from Fox Broadcasting Company or any of its affiliated entities; one-on-one creative meetings with network and other Fox entertainment business heads, as well as senior cross-divisional current and development executives; and priority staffing efforts across Fox entertainment properties.

All lab participants will receive staffing meetings for current Fox entertainment series and a first-look agreement to option their original and new scripts.

Notable Fox Writers Lab alumni include Lena Waithe, Emmy-winning writer of Master of None and creator, executive producer and writer of The Chi; Ed Gonzalez, co-writer of feature film All Eyes on Me; Cindy Fang, staff writer on Rush Hour and Fresh Off the Boat; JaSheika James and JaNeika James, executive story editors on Empire; and Ester Lou Weithers, staff writer on Star and Pitch.

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

2017 CALL FOR ENTRIES:

Thank you for your interest in the 2018 Fox Writers Lab.  We have reached 750 submissions and the application is now closed.

21st Century Fox Inclusion is excited to announce the launch of the 2018 Fox Writers Lab (“FWL”). Applications are open September 25th, and will close on October 22nd or once Fox has received 750 complete applications (whichever comes first).

The Fox Writers Lab is a highly selective initiative designed to nurture experienced writers who have diverse voices, backgrounds, and life experiences. We are looking for fearless storytellers who will create a strong pipeline of well-rounded talent for potential staffing on Fox television shows, films, and other Fox Entertainment properties.

The FWL initiative offers trained writers an immersive four-month curriculum focused on developing original material, honing writing skills, and exploring the business of media and entertainment. Eight (8) writers will be selected to participate in the FWL initiative. These selected writers receive priority staffing meetings for the established FWL Staff Writer position on a Fox television show. From the eight (8) chosen writers, one writer will be named the 2018 FWL Fellow and will receive a blind script deal with Fox Broadcasting Company.

Please note that this year, writers selected for the FWL program will polish, refine, and rewrite an existing, original pilot script. Please be ready to submit the script you would like to rewrite in the Lab as part of your application.

To apply, you will need the following:

  • One (1) Original Pilot Script
  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
  • Resume/CV
  • Bio
  • Personal Statement
  • Script Synopsis
  • Logline
  • 3 Additional Original Loglines
  • Submission Agreement
  • If you are a part of a team: Writing teams should submit ONE application on behalf of the team (example:  “John Smith and Joe Schmo.”)  Within that one application, please submit separate bios and resumes for each member of the team.  Submit two (2) recommendation letters jointly recommending the team.  Otherwise, please submit one recommendation letter for each team member, for a total of two (2) recommendation letters.  All submission agreements should be signed separately by each member of the team and uploaded to the application.
