Automata - This science-fiction noir series based on characters from the popular web-comic invites you to experience a world unlike anything you have seen. In this fictional 1930s-set tale, it is not liquor that is outlawed but instead the continued production of highly sentient robots known as automatons. They live among us as an underclass of social outcasts, victims of human prejudice and strict laws that govern their existence. Automata follows New York private detective Sam Regal (Basil Harris) and his automaton partner Carl Swangee (Doug Jones) as they work together to solve a crime and understand each other in this dystopian America. Premiered at SeriesFest in Denver, CO and playing at Seattle International Film Festival. (46 min)
The Natural Order of Things - “The Natural Order of Things” tells the story of two fathers whose lives converge around a tragedy against the backdrop of modern day Beijing, China. Shot with all Chinese cast and crew, the short film is inspired by “The Myth of Justice”, an ethics essay written by the late Michael Dorris, and an old Taoist parable, “Tu Tzu-Chun”, found in Maxine Hong Kingston’s China Men collection of short stories.
