The Bound Bison Project centers around a mobile art installation that is at once incendiary and inspirational, serving as a talking piece about the nature of citizenship, patriotism, freedom, conserva. . . ation and racial identity. With collaborators from the Blackfeet Nation of Northern Montana, we created the initial installation in a spiritually iconic landscape on the east side of Glacier National Park. After moving the piece to Browning -- one of the most economically challenged communities in Montana and the hub of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation -- the reaction was astounding. A simple but stark art piece became a mouthpiece for people who too often have no voice. As more people have seen photos of the installation, we've noted passionate, oftentimes completely contradictory interpretations. Our hope is to return with the art for a longer film and photo essay exploring a few of the divides in our society. In doing so, we have two objectives. The first objective is to stimulate revealing conversations about the American experience. Our second objective is to unite people through art in a fractious and argumentative time which seems to lack empathy. Perhaps we can achieve greater understanding of the challenges that face contemporary Native American society. We hope you can support the project with a small donation. Thank you show more
