Set in the 1950s in rural Colorado, a young girl June witnesses her father disappear for days without explanation, and the pain that it gives her mother. This film is a call to women to rise up and no. . . ot stay silent when they experience injustice and unfair treatment in relationships and in their life. The story is intended to help bring light to the unsaid expectations for the roles that women have played historically, and is meant to heal and break the cycle of existing patterns for women today. This story is based on true events. "Pieces" is a selection of scenes from the full length feature film in progress - "I'm Too Small To Bear The Load." I couldn't figure out why my wife always barked on how men assumed they were superior to women until I watched this girl and her mother. It seemed like the usual good-ol'-boys club at the table until the verbal abuse ricocheted through the little girl. She was so wise but at the same tIme so pliable. Then I understood how this child was looking up to her mother as a role model and that she carried that inside of her as she grew up. Pretty cool flick! I actually understand my wife's point of view now.

Please forgive my typos, such as "personal" instead of "persona". I am riding in a car and trying to type on a cell phone. I hope you can get my message as to how strongly this film touched me. The entire family was, indeed, in pieces but the mother and child are the only ones who carry that shattered but normal tradition onward, as is indicated by Georgia in the opening scene; chilling! You really nail the issue of womens roles and how they continue from one generation to the nrxt in "Pieces". Again, you are gifted and brilliant in your approach to filmmaking. Bravo!

Ms. Wakeman, "Pieces" is so incredibly multifaceted, with respect to the mother and daughter, that I am totally memorized by every second of it. Using a child to tell the story of her mother and how she saw her, and the men in her family, and the world around her, is a strong message about how little progress women have made in decades of trying to break our subservient roles. She saw her mother as a heroine while the men saw her as an object, without feelings. I am quite sure I have never seen a film where an adult thinks back on her adolescence with the voice and personal of a child. It's brilliant! I was captivated by the actress, Georgia Rose Matlack. It's rRe to see someone so young have such wisdom to bring to a recording. I would love to see her play the part a few years older; perhaps a preteen, but using the same child-reminiscent catch. You are truly as brilliant star in every capacity. Thanks for the enlightenment and powerful message.

Well done short film. Actually found myself almost in tears....sad, but, in a way, brought back some memories...
