This video is a pitch for a scripted comedy titled "Más Latina".
The creator of the project, Janeva Zentz, describes how it aligns with the mission of the Bese platform, and presents a scene from the pilot, followed by a bit more information on how the show will grow from there.
In Más Latina, a millennial Latin American woman is pushed to explore what it means to be Hispanic in order to propel her career as a youtuber. She turns to the mix of characters on her Latino block to navigate her path forward.
We meet in the process: Consuelo, Gabi's very traditional immigrant mother who is also into beauty and makes a mean tres leches cake. Cindi, Gabi's cousin and best friend who worships the Dodgers and is always the life of the party. The Tall Guatemalan, Gabi's neighbor, who is a legend for his great height as well as his big heart.
In the spirit of the passionate and absurd show “Key & Peele”, the UK comedy “Chewing Gum” and HBO’s “Insecure”, Más Latina digs into racial and socio-economic themes with glee. Shameless Hispanic stereotypes are transformed into beautifully awkward sketches that embrace the many Latinx social forms... like cholas, gueros, vaqueros, dancers, the spicy, the bland, the spirit healers, the narcos, the sicarios, rockers and goth metal heads, overeducated immigrants, undereducated street rats, and on and on.
