Eva Justine Torkkola is completing her final year of the Masters of Film and Television in Directing for Narrative course at the University of Melbourne. She also works as an Acting teacher for the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) running classes in Melbourne for adults and children and is a working actor on stage and screen with over 10 years of experience.

Most recently Eva was seen on stage in ‘He and She’ at the Melbourne Recital Centre in 2018, and on screen playing herself in her mockumentary short ‘Theory of EVAlution’ which is just starting its rounds on the festival circuit, already winning awards and screening in Russia, India, Chile and New York.

‘Tether’ and ‘Artery’ are two of Eva’s latest short films have also recently been completed and are now entering the festival circuit. ‘Artery’ was filmed when Eva was chosen as the representative of her cohort by Melbourne University to visit China and make her first documentary. She was there for three weeks in the Qinling Mountains has now completed that short, which she not only directed but also researched, shot, and did sound and editing for as well.

She is currently working on her graduating film titled ‘Something Has Died in the Forest’ which will be shot both in Australia and Ukraine. She is currently in Ukraine researching and location scouting for that film until June. After Ukraine, Eva has been selected as one of 20 upcoming filmmakers from around the world to do a film course with the incomparable Jane Campion in Bologna, Italy. Jane will work alongside Eva to develop ‘Something Has Died in the Forest’ for two weeks before Eva returns home and starts preproduction.
