This is the trailer for Sara's Circus, a feature documentary I am making with my husband, Bryant Naro. We are a co-directing team, and he shoots and I edit. Sara Morgan Greene is a 20-year circus veteran, and 43-year-old single mother, with a big dream—to start her own tented circus. Her step-mother Soos, who mentored her creatively throughout her life, was recently was diagnosed with ALS. Sara feels now is the time to fulfill her dream, not just because she gained the confidence needed to direct a show through recent work, but because she needs to share the culmination of her life's work and her big dream with her step mother before she passes away. Her obstacles are not just financial and time-based, but she has to overcome an uphill battle with the local fire chief regarding permitting, mostly due to loss of life under a different big top in the same state the previous year. Her cast of ten includes a voiceover actor who loves physical comedy, a young female clown looking to transcend her beauty and showcase her comedy, and a recent high school graduate who decides to follow Sara's dream rather than pursue college. As things come to a head with the fire chief, some of the cast disbands while the rest rally around Sara and develop a deep bond while creating new material, and one final show for Soos.
